What season are you in?
I love springtime in the Phoenix Valley. The wide palette of colors that burst from shrubs and trees, the crisp freshness of the bright blue sky and the scarlet severity of the sunsets that splash against the dark mountains takes my breath away. This past week I have been drinking it all in for next week ... I head into another season as I return to Africa.
Winter is on its way to South Africa. The nights are becoming longer and the days are steadily getting colder. The African night sky becomes cloudless and the stars shine at their very brightest. When I am outside after dark, my neck always cranes back and my eyes eagerly seek out the Southern Cross. In wintertime, the constellation of Scorpio is easy to spot. The stars in the Southern hemisphere are familiar to me and feel like home.In the book of Ecclesiastes, we find a beautiful passage of scripture, almost a lament. It speaks of heartache and of joy. It speaks of life, of death, of humanity, of God and the times and seasons He has put into place. It is a beautiful, mysterious and glorious passage. Whenever I read it, I am prompted to ask …What season are you in?
- Do you need to plant? Are there areas in your life where God requires you to work hard, keep at it and keep planting so that at some point in the future, you can reap a harvest?
- Do you need to uproot? Perhaps you have allowed things to creep into your life that should not be there. Or perhaps there are good things in your life but its season is over and its time to pull it out and make room for something new and fresh?
- Do you need to mourn? Are there areas in your life that are done? It may be that it came to a natural end, or you may have neglected it and it died. Either way, perhaps its time to mourn and reflect?
- Do you need to dance? Is it harvest time in your life? Are you reaping the reward of past hard work or past investment in life and lives. Take the time to celebrate and sing for good things are happening.
